Currently, AI is the hottest topic, especially regarding AI assistants for developers, automating tasks, and enhancing business applications. Companies are transforming into AI-focused entities. A notable example of this trend is reflected in the renaming of Oracle Database:

  • 1999: Oracle8i — “Integration”: This version introduced Java and XML integration, allowing developers to write Java code in stored procedures for the first time.
  • 2003: Oracle Database 10g — “Grid”: This release brought Grid Computing to Oracle Database, enhancing distributed systems, scalability, and high availability.
  • 2013: Oracle Database 12c — “Cloud”: The introduction of multitenant architecture marked a significant step into Cloud Computing.
  • 2024: Oracle Database 23ai — “Artificial Intelligence”: The database is rebranded from 23c to 23ai, highlighting the focus on artificial intelligence.

This renaming trend illustrates how Oracle adapts to evolving technologies, and we, as Java developers, must do the same.

I found this article, and it’s essential for all Java developers, as it explores the future of Java as a programming language and runtime for AI.
