A Breakfast a Day Keeps A Homeless Away…

Here is a nice story from Alexander about why time-based reputation is a very good idea.

Actually this idea just pop in after I have been in Italy for so many years. I saw all the initiative, either from churches, Vatican, NGO, etc. but still they could not send the homeless away. So there is something wrong. Most of us are quite generous and give our excess wealth through different channels, institution, non-profit and others. But nobody has tried it by themselves.

So in the beginning is quite tough as most of the homeless or needy person in Europe is quite proud about themselves and most of the time, they denied my invitation to have a breakfast together and chats. But I do insist and one day, in front of a cafeteria in my hometown Rimini — actually I was waiting for my friend but just for a short instant — I saw a young African guy asking for small money, a beggar. Instead of giving him money, I asked him to have a breakfast with me and fortunately he accepted. I was happy and anxious what will be our incontro!

So while waiting for our cappuccino and espresso, I found out that his name was Victor from Nigeria, he is around 20 years old, has a bachelor degree with a plan to continue study in Europe but then that plan got destroyed and he got stuck in Italy as an illegal immigrant.
